Michael P. Chase Sr., commonly known as Mike Chase, was born on March 17, 1957, in Albany, New York, and resided in Guilderland, New York. He peacefully passed away at his home on November 13, 2025, after battling the devastating aftermath of a stroke that he suffered in June 2025. Despite five long months of fighting for recovery, his body, worn but resilient, could no longer continue its fight, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength.
He was a devoted husband to Mary "Mitzi" Rosencrans for 43 years, a loving father to his three children, and a proud papa whose love for his family was limitless and whose kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Mike’s career was working as a senior computer engineer, but his true calling was always as a mechanic, a craftsman who could breathe life into anything that was broken or worn. His love for working on cars was never just a hobby, it was a passion that stayed with him until the very end. A graduate of Guilderland High School and Union College, where he studied mechanical engineering, Mike’s talents knew no limits. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would learn, he would figure it out, and he would make it work.
Mike had a gift for bringing joy into the lives of others. He was a man of many talents, a builder, a fixer of problems, a source of comfort and laughter. His infectious smile and “far out” laugh will forever echo in our hearts, a reminder of a man who never asked for help but was always ready to give it,help that was given freely and with genuine warmth. He thrived on feeling needed, and in truth, he was deeply needed by all of us. His time with us was tragically too short, yet his impact was profoundly everlasting. He found joy in the simple pleasures—a ride on his Harley, the company of friends and family, or a good sci-fi movie. He cherished moments at his family camp in Brant Lake, New York, where he spent time boating, fishing and hunting. Brant Lake was a place where he found peace and joy.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love that stretches across generations. His wife, Mitzi; his children, Kimberly (Kevin) McHugh, Michael Jr. (Maureen) Chase , and Matthew Chase ; his beloved grandchildren— Madalyn and Henry McHugh , Noah, Mason, Gavin, Aidan, and Owen Chase; his brothers Raymond and Robert Chase (Peggy Smith); his sister Mary Zaremski (Michael "Z"); and a large, loving, extended family. His parents, Lloyd and Louise Chase, preceded him in death in addition to his nephew Courtney Rosencrans.
His life will be honored with services on November 20 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals and a heartfelt Mass of Catholic Burial will take place at Christ the King Church on November 21 at 10 a.m., 20 Sumter Ave. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, a peaceful place where his spirit will rest.
Afterward, family and friends will gather to remember him, to celebrate his life, and to share stories of his kindness, humor, and the love that bound us all. Please reach out privately to the family for details about the gathering.
With profound gratitude, we thank the compassionate teams at Albany Medical Center Neuro ICU and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Center for giving us precious moments—brief but priceless— where he smiled and spoke. We are forever grateful to hospice for their tender care, their gentle compassion, and for walking alongside us in this difficult journey.
