Melvin F. Weaver, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 with his loving family by his side.
Melvin was the son of the late Chester and Frances "Marletta" Weaver. He was the devoted husband to the late Luella C. Williams Weaver. They were married for 69 years.
Melvin retired from the Albany Police Department in 1985 after 27 years of service. He was also the first shop steward of the Police Officers Union.
Melvin loved hunting and fishing with his grandchildren, camping with his family, and dancing with Luella. He also enjoyed spending time with his entire family.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his son Melvin F. Weaver, Jr., his grandson Nicklaus Weaver, his son-in-law Ronald Tripp as well as two brothers and one sister.
Melvin is survived by his children, Deborah Tripp, Robert (Pamela) Weaver, and his daughter-in-law Lisa (John) Nardini. He was the proud grandfather of Jason (Crissy), Nicole (Ron), Vanessa (Carlos), Stephanie, Derrick (Koryn), Valerie (Jake), Tammy (Sean) and Erin. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, his brother Lawrence (Elaine) Weaver and several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to his daughter-in-law, Lisa Nardini and his granddaughter, Tammy Odgen whose tireless advocacy as health care proxies and care givers ensured Melvin's final journey was filled with comfort, love, and peace.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189 on Tuesday October 13, 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will follow the service at Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society Memorial Processing Center, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110 in Melvin's memory.
