Melissa "Mitzi" Whelan

Albany- Mitzi Whelan, (45) went home to God on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at St Peter’s Hospital after a short illness. She is survived by her parents Jim and Maggie Whelan, siblings Colleen Garbarini, James (Rebecca) Whelan, Dan Whelan, Shannon Whelan, Matthew (Meghan) Whelan and Julie Whelan, many nieces and nephews, one great niece and one great nephew.

Mitzi was a resident of the Catholic Charities Warren House and enjoyed many fun times with, her sister Margaret Mary and staff. She also attended a day program at the Center for Disability Services Smith Center. She was well liked by many and will be remembered for her winning smile and contagious laugh. Mitzi taught those who knew her the value of all kinds of music and musical instruments. Her family will always think of her as the one who gave “the best hugs in the world”.
