Martin “Al” Lindsay, 90, entered into eternal life on August 5, 2025. Born in Cohoes NY, he later moved to Albany NY to raise his family, he was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Helene Lindsay, his parents Martin Thomas and Littica Lindsay. Al is survived by sons Christopher A.(former daughter-in-law Nancy), Thomas D. (Christine) and Paul R. (Jenifer), and eight grandchildren; Barbara, Theresa (Zach) McNulty, John (Jaclyn) and Duncan Lindsay, and Callie, Mackenzie Lindsay, and Dylan and Allison Lockrow-Lindsay, also a great granddaughter April McNulty.
Al graduated from LaSalle Institute in 1951 where he achieved the rank of Cadet Colonel and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Manhattan College in 1955. He had further education at Syracuse University and New York State Teachers College before entering the U.S. Army where he met his lifelong friend Bob Tamulinas. Then followed a lengthy career in the employ of the New York State Civil Service Department.
He was always active in community organizations including the Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts, National Little League and the churches of St. Theresa and St. Catherine (now Mater Christi). After he retired he volunteered at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center where he was a Naturalist Instructor, educating young minds on the importance of conservation. Additionally, Al, along with his wife Helene, had a great love of the Adirondacks and were very early supporters of The Wild Center in Tupper Lake. Al and Helene spent many summers vacationing at Brant Lake and Lake George.
Al had a passion for singing and shared his voice with the world through his membership in various choir groups including the Mendelssohn Club, the Northeast Men’s Chorus, the Yankee Male Chorus and The Festival of Praise. He was also a long-time member of the Church Choir at St. Catherine’s and later Mater Christi. Singing gave him the opportunity to travel throughout the country and abroad, including performances at Carnegie Hall, The Mormon Tabernacle and several Cathedrals in the United Kingdom.
As an avid outdoorsman, Al loved fishing and hunting. He was a long-time member of the Philmont Rod & Gun Club where he spent lots of time with his late friends Johnny Quinn and Ed Noullet. In later years Al shared his passion for fishing with longtime family friend Jon Hausman. In addition, Al became an avid birder accompanying his son Tom on numerous nature photographer trips.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Al's memory may be made to The Friends of Five Rivers, 56 Game Farm Rd., Delmar, NY 12054.
Calling hours will be held from 5:30 pm. to 8:00 pm. on, August 12, 2025, at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am. on August 13, 2025, at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. Albany, NY. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 40 Middleton Rd. Waterford, NY.
