ALBANY-Mark Hernandez, age 65, passed away at Delmar Center for Rehab & Nursing on February 10, 2026.
He was born in New York, New York, the son of the late Galo Hernandez Jr. and Elizabeth Sanchez.
Mark worked as a General Contractor for his father's General Contracting business in New York's LES, and for various worldwide moving companies in NYC, and in Albany, NY, and for NYS voter registration.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Sanchez, his brother, Galo Hernandez III (Francis), nephews, Galo Hernandez IV, and Alex Hernandez, of Thomaston, ME, Mark's step-daughter, Nicole Ramos, and family, of Schenectady, NY, and step-sister, Ivy Finn (Keith) and family, of New Jersey. He is also survived by an uncle, aunts, nieces, and cousins.
Down in the LES, in NYC, Mark always loved playing music, especially as a DJ, dancing, and, of course, nightclubs, with whom we still consider extended family and friends. He had a great sense of humor. Mark was a hard worker, like his middle brother, Galo III, and his youngest brother, Christopher (RIP). They learned all of the tools of the trade in the general contracting business early in life. Their father was tough on them when it came to doing the work properly. It paid off, for there was nothing that they couldn't do or build... and still it continues with his brother, Galo III.
I bought Mark up to Albany, NY, from NYC in 1990, and he has always been a loving, compassionate, and caring son. In 1995, he became disabled due to a lesion in the left frontal lobe of his brain, which left him with right-sided paralysis and other complications. Although his MD had then said he had only 6 months to 2 years to live, Mark beat the odds and lived another 31 years. I would never let him give up, no matter what. He would drive or travel by public transit buses, if it was too far for him, in his motorized wheelchair. He treasured his somewhat independence. His health at times was like a roller coaster. Since Sept. 27th, 2025, I took him to the ER, since he did not want me to call an ambulance, due to the pain in his lower abdomen; so for the next five months plus, due to further complications in his health, he lived between the hospital and the Delmar Rehab OT/PT Center, he had just been transferred back to the rehab on Feb. 5th... he so desperatly wanted to go home, and he tried so hard to be strong, but he was never to see his home again. Now my son, Mark, whom I love and miss tremendously, has found a new home for himself, with our Lord, his brother, Chris, his father, and the rest of the family and friends, who left before he did... Knowing Mark, I bet he's looking for his turntable.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Friday February 27, 2026 from 3 to 4 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. All are invited to attend his celebration of life ceremony from 4 to 5 p.m.
