Marjorie Frances Vosburgh-Chappell left this life on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the age of 84, just 3 weeks shy of her 85th birthday. Marjorie was the daughter of the late Olga Lawton and had the privilege of being raised by Frances E. Vosburgh, M. D., on their farm in Albany, NY. Marjorie attended Voorheesville Central High School and worked for over 40 years in various capital region nursing homes, providing excellent care to many patients. She was also a wildlife rehabilitator and happily raised cats, dogs, rabbits, roosters, ducks, and ferrets. Marjorie was well-known for her young-at-heart personality, upbeat energy, as well as her loving, compassionate, and enthusiastic soul. Not to mention her outrageous homemade angel food cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream filling and frosting.
Many of her fondest memories were when she converted the family farm property to The Hidden Grape produce farm. Waking up early to work in the greenhouse and picking vegetables to bring to the local farmers' markets to sell was a great way to start the day. She even took a portion of the property and converted it into community plots where anyone could try his/her hand at gardening. When farming season was over, she celebrated with friends and family with Mud Run Parties. That is where she met her husband, Billy.
Marjorie is survived by her beloved husband William J. Chappell (Billy) of 22 years of marriage, with whom she had many adventures across the country on their Harley Davidson. Together they enjoyed traveling, taking long walks through nature, the three-day yearly Harley Rendezvous, and time with family and friends. She’s also survived by her hardworking son and practical jokester Forest Smith who was her pride and joy, caring and kind daughter-in-law Lelanie and her loving granddaughter Danica, with whom she had terrific times sharing macarons and tea. Dear shopping-buddy sister Suzanne who shared many laughs and memories while speaking daily on the phone; brother-in-law Tim and nephews Matt and Jon (Ali) who loved to celebrate many birthdays in Saratoga together. A long-time friend, Joyce, was like a sister; they enjoyed long talks and telling stories.
Marjorie is also survived by her extended family brought to her by unity with her husband. A wonderful son, Gregory Chappell, his loving bride Pamela, and their handsome boys, giving Marjorie 2 hardworking grandsons, Brandon (Kaitlyn) and Joshua (Suzanna), a beautiful daughter, Rebecca Redmond, and her caring husband Steven, (Marjorie used to love sneaking black liquorish from Steven) and their girls, giving Marjorie 2 more loving granddaughters Kasidy and Phoebe, all of whom Marjorie loved and who dearly loved her in return. Together they all enjoyed family time, cooking out, poolside barbecues on July 4th, and watching the incredible fireworks display at the neighbor's house. She looked forward to the holiday meals at Greg and Pam's and the relaxing time at Becky and Steve's camp. A wonderful sister- in- law Betsy Chappell, they loved to chat and tell stories about Billy and many wonderful friends who will miss her dearly. When we hear a strange sound or feel a warm breeze, we will know that she is with us.
As Marjorie's family, we are very grateful to the staff at Riverside Nursing Home in Castleton for their tender loving care.
n lieu of gifts, a charity of your choice would be a wonderful memorial of her life. And remember to Love Life, Smile, and WALK every day!
