Sterge, Marie J. (Ward) ALBANY Marie J. Sterge (nee Ward), 85, passed away peacefully in her home on April 19, 2015. Raised on her parent's farm along the Mohawk River and in Troy, with her six siblings, Marie went to Catholic Central High School, class of 1947. She was the daughter of the late Margaret and John Ward. She was employed for many years at the William K. Sanford Library until her retirement. Reading was one of her favorite past times, other than spending time with her children and well-loved grandchildren. Marie was an incredibly devoted mother, and an especially beloved "Grammy" to her three grandchildren. The greatest gift she left her family was the lesson on how to love, and be loved in return. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Christie Sterge; her longtime companion, Peter Mooney; and her five siblings, John, Margaret, Harold, Jean, and Dorothy. She is survived by her three children, Christine (George) Hearst of Menands, Susan Sterge of Albany, and Jeffrey (Deborah) Sterge of Colonie; her beloved grandchildren, Emma (John Barker) Hearst, and Nicholas and Bryan Sterge; her youngest brother Jim Ward, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on Thursday, April 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, will be held on Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Marie's family wishes to thank three incredible physicians, Drs. Duncan Savage, Stefan Swicker, and Brian Steckel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Mass cards in Marie's name.
