Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret “Peg” (Kalmes) Deukmejian, 77, who went home to be with the lord on July 4, 2026, following a brief illness at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born April 23,1949 to William and Margaret Kalmes, Peg spent most of her life in Menands, NY, graduating from Menands Union Free School District and received her high school diploma in 1967 from the Academy of the Holy Names. A devoted lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Menands, Peg lived her faith through kindness, compassion, and dedication to her family. Peg began her career at Fleet Bank (Norstar Bank), where she worked in payroll, trusts, and estates. She later became a home daycare provider, caring for countless children with the same love and patience she gave her own. While she excelled in every role she held, her greatest joy and true calling were being a wife, mother, and Nana.

Peg leaves behind her beloved husband, Ed Deukmejian, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage of 56 years. Together, they built a wonderful family and a lifetime of shared devotion. Above all else, Peg was the proud and loving mother of her three boys – Brian (Annie), Eric (Lynne), and Mark (Sara) - whom were her greatest blessings in life. She was also the cherished Nana to Brett (Miriam), Christian (Britney), Alex, Eliana, Ryleigh, Leah, Lexi, and Madison, and great-Nana to Amelia, Emmett, Charles, and Carolyn. From sharing stories and laughter to celebrating milestones and making lasting memories, her love for them was unwavering. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and warm smile will remain in their hearts forever.

Peg found her greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life and leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories. She loved the beach, especially long walks along the shore searching for seashells, sand dollars, and starfish, and eagerly anticipated her annual trips to Hampton Beach, where she created countless treasured memories with her family. Through her journey of 77 years, she touched many lives with her wisdom, humor, and unwavering spirit of perseverance and is remembered by many friends and loved ones.

She is reunited in heaven with her parents, William and Margaret Kalmes, and her fur babies – Maggie, Cocoa, and Bella.
