Latham — Lydamae T. Peters, 79, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born on October 4, 1946, in Troy, New York, and grew up in Latham, New York. She was the daughter of the late Marion (Tanner) Peters and Charles V. Peters.

Lydamae graduated from Shaker High School, Class of 1963. Following graduation, she began her career with the New York State Department of Education, where she worked for over 35 years. During that time, she formed many lifelong friendships before retiring and dedicating herself to caring for her great-niece and great-nephew.

Lydamae was always willing to lend a helping hand, never expecting anything in return. Whether it was a ride or any other favor, her answer was always a resounding yes.

Though she did not have children of her own, she was a fiercely devoted and loving aunt—a second mother to her sister’s children and a grandmother figure to her great-nieces and nephews, especially Emma and Alex, whom she cared for regularly from the time they were born. She was a constant presence at family gatherings and vacations and was always ready for a trip to the casino.

She cherished traveling with her sisters and their families. Lydamae had a passion for ceramics and made sure everyone had one of her beloved ceramic Christmas trees. She never left home without a word search puzzle and found great joy in attending her nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events. In recent years, she especially loved cheering on her great-nephew, Alex, at his baseball, volleyball, and basketball games, never wanting to miss a moment. When she was no longer able to drive herself, she enjoyed rides and special trips for ice cream sundaes with Kevin and Maura, which brought her great happiness.

We take comfort in imagining her in heaven, with plenty of Pepsi, butter pecan ice cream, and, of course, no orange cheese.

Lydamae was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Marion Peters; her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Richard Sherry; and her sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Ronald Robbins Sr.

She is survived by her sister, Marionlynn Giroux; her only niece, Melissa (Scott); her nephews, Paul, Ron (Johanna), Kevin (Maura), Dan (Suzanne) and Scott; along with many great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-great niece.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watervliet.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and the Hospice Unit for the outstanding care and compassion shown to Lydamae in her final days.
