Lucy Neubauer, 91, of Albany, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Born Jan. 23, 1934, in Middleborough, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Otto Peter and Phyllis (Sullivan) Becker.
Lucy attended Middleborough High School and earned her nursing diploma at the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing. She had a long career as a registered nurse at hospitals and healthcare organizations in Massachusetts and New York, including Massachusetts General Hospital, St. Peter’s Hospital, and Child’s Hospital. She earned her bachelor's degree in healthcare administration at SUNY Empire State College.
In her spare time Lucy was an avid Scrabble player who introduced the game to each of her grandchildren at a young age and played with them often; she also founded the Scrabble Club at the Avila Retirement Community. She was a longtime volunteer for the Albany Symphony Orchestra through its Vanguard group, for whom she organized the annual children’s concerts and assisted with the annual Show House fundraising effort. Lucy enjoyed classical music, often attending performances by the Albany Symphony Orchestra and many other Capital District ensembles. She was a prolific knitter who crafted sweaters for family members and baby blankets for those in need. She also greatly enjoyed swimming, and never went on a trip without her suit, cap, and goggles. She was an active parishioner at Christ the King Church in Westmere for 45 years.
She is survived by daughters Margaret Moore (Belvie) of Roanoke, VA; Anne Knowler (Christopher) of Aberdeen, MD; and Lili Schroppe (Stephen) of Ridgefield, CT. She is also survived by eight grandchildren - Caitlin Connell, Belvie Moore III, Sarah Moore, Rachel Neubauer, Arthur Knowler, Bridget Knowler, Elizabeth Schroppe, and Carter Schroppe - as well as niece Irene Bagley, grandchildren-in-law John Connell and Rachael Moore, two great-grandsons, and many friends.
She was predeceased by her son Peter O. Neubauer.
Friends may call Thursday, May 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 30, at 11:00 am in Christ the King, 20 Sumter Avenue.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Albany Symphony Orchestra.
