Listen to Obituary

Louise M. Kuziomko, 81, of Albany, N.Y., passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025 in the comfort of her home. She was born July 28, 1944 in N.Y.C. and was the daughter of Harry and Frances Morrissey. Her father was enlisted in the Army and was overseas when she arrived. Telegram to him read “It’s a girl”. Her mother was living with her parents (Luegia and Domenico Gugluemetti) until his discharge.

Upon his discharge, the family moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. where her brother Harry was born 2 years after her. They both went to local Catholic school, St. James Pro-Cathedral, Louise until the 5th grade. The family then moved to Roosevelt, L.I. where she continued her education in the public schools, graduating from Hempstead High School.

After graduation, she attended Alfred State College in Alfred, N.Y. for 1 year and then returned to Roosevelt, L.I. to graduate from Nassau Community College. She moved to Albany, N.Y. and there received her BA from State University at Albany.

Her bother Harry married Linda Pettit and they provided Louise with, in her own words, “…four nieces! Four beautiful, intelligent daughters: Tricia, Laura, Sharon, and Cristin.” Tricia was also honored to have Louise chosen as her Godmother.

Remaining in Albany, she began her career with New York State at the Department of Motor Vehicles; she then transferred to the Department of Social Services where she ultimately would retire from after many years of service. During this time, she bought and restored a historic home in the Center Square Neighborhood amidst the demolition of the South End to make way for the Empire State Plaza. This would be her home for the remaining years of her life and she loved it dearly.

Louise partnered with Bill Morgan in the late ’70s and they would begin a wonderful life together. They purchased 54 acres in Grafton, N.Y. and maintained a home there as well as the city house. She wrote “without Bill I would never have experienced all the adventures I lived through: including gardening and parties at Grafton, cross-country motorcycle trips, camping for months in FL during the winter, camping in New Zealand, motorcycling in Europe, etc.” They also bought a boat that they would enjoy on the weekends traveling on local lakes and the Hudson River, frequently as far as N.Y.C.

During her working career and after, Louise was fortunate to travel to many countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, New Zealand, Australia and North and South America. Her most frequent travel partner was Bill and many times with her close friends.

Her life in Albany was made richer by the good fortune of making many dear and special friends in her neighborhood, workplace, and socially. High on that list were her special TALC Ten Ladies with whom she spent many, many hours, days, and sometimes weeks traveling together and enjoying each other’s company and unique personalities. She also

had the good fortune of spending time with Bill’s sister Jan. Again to quote Louise, “She helped me more than anyone could expect. I would have been lost without her”.

Louise’s spirituality was also very important to her and played an active role in her life. She received great comfort and guidance in her personal spiritual practice from Buddhist teacher and mentor, Mingyur Rinpoche and Dr. & Master Zhi Gang Sha. Her spirit, her legacy, will live on with us all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her soul will merge with the universe and perhaps we will meet with her again.

Louise is survived by her brother Harry; her four nieces: Tricia Morrissey, Laura Carucci, Sharon Perez, and Cristin Garrie; many great nieces and nephews; stepson Dan Morgan; and sister-in-law Jan M. Morgan. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, her stepdaughter Kristen Haines, her sister-in-law Linda Morrissey, and her partner John (Bill) Morgan (May 6, 2025).
