Albany- Linwood Richardson Jr., 82, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2105. Linwood was born on October 21,1933 to the late Linwood and Geneva Richardson in Danville, Virginia. "Richie" as he was known to friends and family alike was a United States Air Force veteran. While serving overseas, he met his wife Monica in London, England. They were married in 1960. In 1966 he served a one year tour of duty in Vietnam and retired in 1972 at the rank of Technical Staff Sargent. Richie retired with honorable distinction after 21 years of active military service.
Richie graduated from the College of Saint Rose in 1977 with a BA in Sociology and embarked on a second career at the Watervliet Arsenal. He retired from the Arsenal in 1994 where he served in many professional and administrative capacities. Richie was an incredible cook and expressed his love by cooking for his children and grandchildren. His Babyback "Richie Ribs" and amazing side dishes were renowned by all who had the pleasure of tasting. He enjoyed the company of friends and family. He loved his most recent pet Pal, enjoyed bowling, travel and was a connoisseur of fine automobiles. Richie was predeceased by his loving wife Monica Richardson, whom he cared for until her passing in 2013.
He is survived by his four children Sharon D. Callendar of Guilderland, NY, Michele A. Gonzalez (Samuel) of Sleepy Hollow, NY, Diane P. Richardson of San Jose, CA, and Janette R. Richardson of Nixa, Missouri, his Grandchildren Alicia Galimore (Nate) of Niskayuna, NY, Monaa Caramanna (John) of Niskayuna, Justin and Samantha Gonzalez of Sleepy Hollow NY, Juanita, Alfonso, Angel, Arianna Villafuerte and Kassy of San Jose, CA, Michael A. Richardson of Albany, NY, 7 Great grandchildren, brother, Thomas W. Richardson of Albany, NY and sister Betty J. Farmer of Virginia.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 518.456.4442, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, on Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 9:00am-11:00am with a service immediately following. Military burial will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 1:00pm.
