GUILDERLAND- Master Sergeant Lee P. Pigliavento, Sr.,76, passed away on February 22, 2018 at home with his family.
He was born on November 20, 1941 son of the late Frances (Frank) Paul Pigliavento and Hazel Ruth Bills at Bellevue Hospital in Schenectady, NY.
Lee was a highly decorated Vietnam War Veteran. He retired after 21 years of dedicated service in the U.S. Air Force. His service also included tours in North Africa, Saudi Arabia and a number of stateside locations. He was awarded the prestigious Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts in supporting critical combat locations throughout Vietnam. Additionally he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters.
Lee was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a master of all trades, an innovative tool maker and was very fond of his chain saw! He planted as many trees as he took down. Lee built his home and the addition on his camp and has passed on his craftsmanship skills to his children. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Lee is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sandra (Mundy) Pigliavento; his children, Susan Lee Pigliavento, Lee Paul Pigliavento, Jr. (Tony NeSmith), Lynn Marie Rickson (Charles Rickson); grandson, Ryan Curtis Rickson, granddaughter, Ashley Marie Rickson; sister, Patricia Longo (William Longo) and many cherished nieces and nephews, and many additional "adopted" daughters, granddaughters and grandsons that knew him as Papa.
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Lisa Jean Pigliavento.
A memorial service to celebrate Lee's life will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. Friends and family are invited to share condolences from 3pm-6pm prior to services. Interment will be held on May 18, 2018 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
