Beloved mother, dedicated grandmother, and wife, Karen Aletha Dedie, 85, of Cobleskill passed away on October 24, 2025. She was born on October 3, 1940, in Albany, New York.
Karen was a fine artist and an admired craftsperson known for her generous smile and gorgeous gardens. Whimsy and spirit infused whatever she created, whether in pen and ink, watercolor, cloth, or physical spaces indoor and out. She loved sunny mornings, poetry, stories, and a simple cup of tea. In the words of one of her grandchildren, “She was so sweet and funny!”
Karen is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert Dedie; her brother Robert Nadeau; her sister Gail Junjulas; her daughters Laura Barkat and Sandra Savage; her stepson Matthew Dedie; ten grandchildren: Elisha, Ezra, Masha, Summer, and Autumn Savage; Sara and Sonia Barkat; and Matthew, Brock, and Cole Dedie; and a great grandson Colsen Dedie.
A service will be held at Asbury Methodist Church in Norton Hill, New York, on November 16, at 2:30 p.m., with the Reverend Tom Carney presiding. In honor of Karen’s deep and abiding love for children, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
