Listen to Obituary

Our family is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Karen L. Boothe, age 78, of Schenectady, New York. Karen passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Karen is survived by her devoted husband, Kevin, with whom she shared nearly 55 years of marriage; her three loving daughters, Nicole Hemsley (Chris), Amy Wells (Roland), and Lori Diaz (Jarrod); her cherished grandchildren, Brianna Smith (Andrew), Alexis Guevara (Franklin), Katherine Hemsley (Alyssa), Ethan Diaz (Brooke) US Navy, and Lukas Diaz; and her adored great-grandchildren, Maverick, Oscar, baby Diaz, and Evren. Karen is also survived by her siblings: Mary, Larry, Don (Janet), David (Sue), Heidi (John), brother-in-law Ken and numerous nieces and nephews. Karen was predeceased by her wonderful parents Larry and Ruth, loving sister Peg, and brother-in-law Herbie.

After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, Karen has found peace. As we lay her to rest, we choose to remember not the illness she endured, but the warmth, kindness, and love that defined her life.

Karen was a loyal and loving wife, a wonderful and caring mother, and a compassionate educator who touched the lives of countless students throughout her teaching career. She believed in the power of kindness, encouragement, and patience, and she shared those gifts generously with everyone she met. Her gentle spirit, unwavering devotion to her family, and dedication to her students left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Though Alzheimer's gradually took many memories from her, it could never diminish the love she gave nor the love that surrounded her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved, taught, and inspired.

Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
