LATHAM - Karen Marie Asher, 59, of Latham passed away unexpectedly at her home on August 9, 2026.

Karen was born in Glens Falls, NY on June 9,1967, the daughter of Suzanne T. Asher and the late Paul J. Asher. She was a graduate of Colonie Central High School class of 1985. Karen went on to graduate from Hudson Valley Community College 1987. She later Studied business administration and management at Russell Sage College 2001, Further receiving her Master in Business Administration from Sage, graduating in 2002. Karen completed her academic career receiving her Doctorate of Business Administration and Finance from California Intercontinental University in 2013.

Karen began her professional career with Keycorp in 1990 rising through the ranks achieving Senior Vice President prior to her departure in 2018. Karen went onto a position with NYS Department of Financial Services, leaving in 2023.

Karen was predeceased by her brother, David L. Asher and her father, Paul J. Asher.

She is survived by her mother Suzanne T. Asher of Latham; NY, her brother Glenn (Sara) Asher of Latham NY her nieces Samantha (Thomas ) Howson of North Greenbush, Kiersten Asher of Latham NY, Caitlyn Asher of Latham NY and her loving life partner Kathleen Marinelli of Latham NY.

Karen in her early years had a fierce love for travel and adventure and most of all family. Karen acquired and departed with many pets throughout the years that put on full display her full love and dedication for all. Karen thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of her nieces lives and her recent new roll of "Great Aunt".

Many in her later years would surely refer to her as their resident (IT) technician. Karen excelled with helping others and volunteering for many organizations holding board positions with many.

Karen’s most recent roll as a resident of King Thiel Il Senior Community with her ambassador therapy dog "Finn" was her most enjoyable. Karen thrived participating in all activities and helping others throughout the community. Check any photo from all events and you’ll find her there. Karen's true best friend was her mother and travel companion as well as Marsha and Luke Brunelle who were always along for the adventure. Karen departed us way too soon but lived a lite full of integrity and love.

Visiting hours will be held on Fri August 14, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet where a brief memorial service will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, August 15. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of New York, LLC in Karen’s memory.
