Juan "Ralph" Muriel

Juan (Ralph) Muriel, 86 years old, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at Albany Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.

He was a resident of Albany, NY since 1996.

He was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and as a child moved to NYC. Juan was raised by his maternal grandparents, Francisco and Francisca Muriel. He lived with his grandparents until his marriage to the love of his life, Elsie Cruz and during his marriage, they both continued to care for them.

Elsie predeceased Juan on August 6, 2018. They were married for 39 years and shared three children, Doreen Muriel, Deborah (Edward) Rivera, and Janice Stallworth. He loved and cherished his girls, he worked very hard to raise and support them, often holding two jobs.

He worked for over 42 years for the well-renowned top steakhouse in NYC, Gallagher's as a Sous chef.

Even though he worked hard he also played hard. On weekends, he and Elsie opened their home to family, friends, and neighbors. Through this, Juan became known for his barbequing skills. Both continued this tradition even after relocating to Albany.

Juan is predeceased by his mother-in-law, Andrea Rodriguez, who lived with the couple the better part of her life. As well as his granddaughter, Jasmine J. Lopez.

In addition to his children, he leaves behind four grandchildren, Aaron JC. Aguilar, Jasmine C. Aguilar, Victor M. Diaz, and Vanessa N. Rodriguez. Six great grandchildren, Atlas Juan Raul Aguilar, Anelise Andrea Aguilar, Elise Lissette Polanco, Jeannestine Carr, Victor Diaz III, and Damian Diaz. As well as his loving niece Yvette (Pedro) Diaz and his great- niece Melody Diaz.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 20 from 6pm to 9pm at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY 12205. Mass will be held on Saturday, March 21 at 10:30am at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St, Albany, NY 12203 with a burial to immediately follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, 1389 Central Ave, Colonie, NY 12205.
