Joyce Schelde, 93, passed away peacefully at home on July 4th. 2025.
Joyce is survived by her grandchildren Daniel Schelde and Sarah Anne Schelde who were her most precious gifts.
She is also survived by her daughter-in-law MaryAnn Schelde who is beyond grateful for her love, guidance and strength all these years. She is also survived by several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Joyce is predeceased by her parents Howard E. and Aleta Bell Pierce LaShaw, her husband, Warren Schelde, her son, Dan Schelde, her siblings Norma Ragan, Nyola Flory, Janice Mazzone, Howard LaShaw and her significant other James E. McDermott of 25 years.
Joyce loved her job in the library at the Watervliet Junior/Senior high school. She loved line dancing and being a Line Dance instructor. She loved bowling, playing cards and games, watching her favorite TV shows and loved spending time with friends and family. One of her favorite places to go was the Watervliet Senior Center where she could hang out with her friends.
The family would like to thank the following: Dr. Edward Foley, Dr. Ashraf Seedhom, Dr. Thomas Federici and all their staff for their care and kindness with her, the nurses and doctors at Samaritan Hospital for the wonderful care they gave to Joyce when she was there and the Watervliet Fire Department and the EMTs.
A special thank you to all of Joyce’s wonderful friends especially those at the Watervliet Senior Center and the Knights of Columbus who took wonderful care of her while she was there enjoying her time with them. She’s especially enjoyed her outings with her friends.
The family would also especially like to thank The Community Hospice and their staff. Their help and kindness were especially appreciated during this difficult time. There are not enough words to express our gratitude for this wonderful organization.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189, on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial will be private.
