Josephus Avellinus Desilva

Josephus Avellinus DeSilva " Sweetie Man", 91, passed away late Wednesday night, January 25th, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Josephus was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on November 10th, 1925. He was the son of the late John DeSilva and Mary Philomina DeSilva. He married his wife, Jasmat DeSilva, and raised six children while learning various trades and became a master confectioner. He was a hardworking, loving, funny, respectful, courageous and strong man. He loved life and he lived each day to the fullest. Josephus was a dedicated follower of Christ and will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and loving personality.

Josephus was pre-deceased by his precious wife Jasmat DeSilva of 60 years; his brothers Tony DaSilva and John DaSilva, his sister May-May, his sister in law Noisy Ramkasoon, his son Antony DeSilva, his daughter Patricia DeSilva, and his grandsons Richard DeSilva and Andy Hanif.

Survived by his sister Maggie Vera, his beloved children, Anand Persaud (spouse Lena), Gregory Desilva (spouse Omedavia), Desiree Mohamed (spouse Fazal), and Marceline Hanif (spouse Ayube); her precious grandchildren, Savita, Rohan, Natasha, Farida, Paulette, Zorina, Janssen, Antony, Jason, Rosana, Lotoya Christopher, Tashana, Alessia, Talesha, Michael and Kevin; his loving nephews & nieces Tony, Michael, Christopher, Rita, Barbara, Edna, Patsy, Donna, Penny, Carol, Maureen, Lizzie, Ann Marie, Juanita and Miranda; and his 17 great-grandchildren.

He will be missed by his loyal dogs Faith, Ace and Maximus.

Viewing will be held on Saturday, January 28th at Calvary Tabernacle Assembly at 1840 Albany Street, Schenectady, NY, 12303 from 11:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a church service from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm. Immediate family will then proceed to the crematorium.
