Joseph Donald Weller

Joseph “Don“ Weller passed away on September 5, 2025 at age 97, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 28, 1928 in Albany, New York to Joseph C. and Margaret (Leonard) Weller, he was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended Albany High School, served in the army, and was graduated from Siena College in 1953.

He was co-owner of Weller, Marcel and Greco Insurance Agency for many years. He then took on a “retirement job“ as a courier for Community Care Physicians, where he continued working up until age 90!

A resident of Clarksville, New York, he was active within his community, serving as a member and past president of Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Company for 53 years.

Known for his quick wit and quiet wisdom honed by a lifetime of avid reading, Don was a good listener and an even better storyteller. He loved spending time outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, or just doing yardwork. He had the good fortune to make several trips to Alaska to visit extended family and come home with ice chests full of salmon and halibut. He loved sports, especially watching his grandchildren compete in hockey, gymnastics, and wrestling. He appreciated how memories from decades ago would pop into his mind and marveled at the technological advancements he saw throughout his long life.

His greatest joy was his family.

He was married to Patricia M (Kilfoyle) Weller, who survives him, for over 67 years. He is also survived by his three children, Peter Weller MD, Mary Pat Wurlitzer, and Amy Weller (Chip Haggerty). He was the beloved grandfather of Nick, Toby, Corey, Zachary, Chad, Phoebe, Rudy, great grandfather of Adelaide, Archie and Larson. Survivors also include his sister, Marilyn Cook, and several nieces and nephews. His “grand dog” Gracie also held a special place in his heart.

He’ll be remembered as a kind and good hearted man who lived a full life, touching the lives of many with his stories, his wisdom and his warmth.

A Memorial Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, with a Words of Remembrance service to begin at 11:00 am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie NY 12205. Inurnment will follow at Gerald B.H.Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
