ALBANY- Joseph V. Dominski, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. Peter's Hospital with his loving family by his side after a long battle with lung cancer.
Joseph was born on August 11, 1946 son of the late Joseph V. Dominski Sr., and Hilda Dominski.
Joe was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School and earned an A.A.S. in Civil Engineering at Hudson Valley Community College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Joe served his country from 1967-1971 on the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier during the Vietnam War. During his service Joe was awarded with the National Defense Service Medal.
On August 21, 1971 he married Concetta (Connie) Mucci in Albany. Joe was employed by the City of Albany Building Dept. acting as Deputy Commissioner of City of Albany and later worked in the NYS Codes Div. before joining Clough Harbour and Associates as a building inspector until his retirement in 2000.
Joe was an active volunteer exterior firefighter and fire policeman for the Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Dept. He participated on Calendar Drive, breakfast prep and Brooks BBQ.
Joe was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son Christopher and son-in-law Dale as well as lifelong friend David Gaul and others. He enjoyed the NY Yankees and Giants, playing horseshoes with OVFC friends, visiting casinos, scratch off tickets, playing cards and Polunky, crossword puzzles and listening to oldies music. Joe was also a member of the Italian American Community Center where he enjoyed playing Bocce. Most recently, Joe served as a Eucharist Minister at Christ The King Church.
Joe treasured the time he spent with family especially with his granddaughter Angelina.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Connie; his daughter, Gina and her husband Dale Erno and their daughter Angelina Erno and his son, Christopher J. Dominski and his wife Isabel Kalin; his sister, Patricia Moore; brother-in-law Dominic and his wife Deborah Mucci and sister-in-law Beverly Mucci and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by brother-in-law, Patrick J. Mucci and niece, Angelina Mucci Sillitto.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 5-7pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:30am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 20 Sumpter Ave, Albany, NY 12203. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.
