Joseph Pizzemento Sr.

Albany - Joseph Pizzemento Sr., 91, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, December 20th. He has now joined his beloved wife, Lucy and his daughter, Pamela. Joe was born January 1, 1924, in New York City. He was the son of the late Paul Pizzemento and Phyllis LaGrasso.

Joe enlisted in the US Navy, June 23, 1942. During his time in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Santee, the USS Intrepid, on which he was a plank owner. He also served along with former President George H.W. Bush aboard the USS San Jacinto. Joe was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 7 Battle Stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Battle Stars, The American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal. Joe was extremely proud of his service, as well as his Life Membership in the Joseph E. Zaloga Post of the American Legion for over 50 years. Joe also marched in every Veteran's Day parade.

He worked bingo on Friday nights for many, many years. He was also a handyman before and after he retired, doing many odds and ends to maintain the Post.

Joe was a proud member of the Painter's Union Local 201 until his retirement in 1986 where he became a lifetime member. He also enjoyed yearly family vacations to the Adirondacks, fishing and boating. He also loved attending parties and dancing on Saturday nights, especially the Electric Slide. He also loved family dinners, gardening and sitting in the sun on his deck.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Paula Baldwin (Jim), his two sons, Joseph Jr. (Marianne) and Gerald (Lisa). He is also survived by his three beautiful grandchildren, Nicolas, Paige and Allie and also several nieces and nephews and in laws. Joe also was predeceased by his sister, Tina and brother, Mario.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, December 26, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie; where the Joseph E. Zaloga Post will conduct a service at 9:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the calling hours at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 125 Eagle Street, Albany, NY at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
