Montimurro, Joseph Peter. - 56 of Albany, passed away suddenly, at his home, on November 25th. Joe was the eldest child of Pamela and Joseph T. Montimurro, born in Worcester, Massachusetts. The family moved to Albany just a year later, where Joe was joined by two more brothers and a sister, growing up together, surrounded by family.

Joe was a proud graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, NY, where he met some of his life-long friends. He then attended Assumption University in Worcester, MA, where he earned a B.A. in Psychology. Deciding on a career in Education, he went on to earn 2 Masters Degrees; one in Elementary Education and a second in Literacy, from the State University of New York at Albany. He spent many years as an educator in New York and California, before retiring to work with animals.

Joe was a true nature lover, feeling most at home on the water with a fishing pole, walking in the woods at his grandparents, camping, or out on a lake in a canoe with his brother, Dan. He had a great affinity for animals, especially dogs. He enjoyed writing and sketching, particularly outdoor images. He was proud of his Celtic roots and learned from his mother the joy of traditional Irish and Scottish music. He loved to attend music festivals with Jen and his brother and sister.

Joe enjoyed golfing, especially with his father while living in California, where they visited some amazing courses together. He was a devout Buffalo Bills and life long Boston Red Sox fan! He enjoyed going to Fenway with his family and sharing the history of his team.

Joe loved people. He had a big heart and a kind soul and possessed the talent of being able to talk about anything with anyone. He liked to help others, offering advice and encouragement.

The thing he was most passionate about, however, was being a dad. Joe adored his three children; Kait, Ben, and Zach. He loved taking them to the pond near his mother’s to go fishing, hiking at Bash Bish Falls, making big Sunday breakfasts, and watching them grow into amazing, compassionate young adults.

Joe joins his loving parents, Pamela Noonan Montimurro and Joseph Thomas Montimurro and he is finally reunited with his youngest brother, Kevin Michael, whom he has missed profoundly for more than 30 years.

Left with his memory are his children, Kaitlyn, Benjamin and Zachary, along with their mother, Jennifer S. Montimurro; his brother, Daniel Montimurro, and his sister and brother in law, Cathleen and James Santaski; as well as his two nieces, Abigail and Emily Montimurro. He also leaves behind many Montimurro and Noonan aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as many cherished friends.

In his later years, Joe dedicated much of his time to working with dogs in various daycare facilities. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joe's Memory to an animal shelter of your choosing.

A visitation and memorial service will be held at a later date, please advise that information to follow.
