Joseph S. Leto III

Joseph S. Leto III (Joey), 58, of Colonie beloved son, brother, partner and friend, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday. He was a vibrant, unforgettable presence who brought laughter and light into the lives of everyone he met.

Born June 20, 1967, in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph, Jr., and Mary Leto.

Joey worked in the beauty industry for over 30 years and in 2017 became owner of his own hair salon. He was known not only for his talent and passion for his craft, but also for his larger-than-life personality.

Joey served as the family’s historian and spent countless hours tracking family lineage and preserving cherished stories as well as the unofficial coordinator of family gatherings.

He is survived by his loving brothers Daniel Leto (Joyce) and Duane Myott; partner Scott Haefner; nieces Angela O’Keefe (Ryan), Karen Simbari (Jeff) and Destiny Whalen (Charles); nephews Erik Bieber (Marissa) and Scott Lomonoco; great nieces Genevieve, Karley and Ophelia; his great nephew Anthony; and his loyal canine companion Roux, as well many cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Mary, his father Joseph Jr., and siblings Jo Ann and Jerome.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie NY 12205.

Per his wishes, Joey will be cremated prior to services, and a celebration of life will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Mohawk Valley Humane Society in Joey’s name would be much appreciated. 

Joey’s memory will live on in the many lives he touched with his humor, kindness, and unmistakable spirit.
