Listen to Obituary

John Wallace Jude O’Brien, 66, of Latham, New York and formerly of Guilderland, unexpectedly passed away November 19, 2025 at his home.

Born December 12, 1958 in Albany, New York, John was the youngest son of the late George P. O’Brien and Carol A. (Wallace) O’Brien. He grew up in Guilderland and was a graduate of Guilderland schools. John worked for the Albany County Department of Public Works for thirty years. He was a volunteer with the Guilderland Fire Department and a member of the American Legion Riders Chapter #977 in Altamont, NY. His former colleagues, friends, and acquaintances fondly remember his sense of humor, loyalty, and his commitment to his Irish roots. He loved Notre Dame football, the Chicago Bears, and the Boston Red Sox, demonstrated by his impressive collection of team memorabilia.

John is survived by his siblings, Michael D. O’Brien of Boynton Beach, FL; Joan R. Genest (Laurent) of Boca Raton, FL and Knox, NY; and Carol A. McCormick (Thomas) of North Hampton, NH, by six nieces and nephews (Ian, Bridget, Livia, Caitlin, Laurent, Colin) and five grandnieces and grandnephews (Noah, Jude, Emma, Kade, Penelope). He was predeceased by his father, George P. O’Brien, and his mother, Carol A. O’Brien. His family wants to honor John for his tender and loving care of his parents until their respective passings. We also want to acknowledge his beloved “Pedey girl,” his rescue dog. He saved Pedey, and she saved him, and she was with him when he passed.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Albany NY 12203, on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 11 a.m. Internment to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

Donations in John’s memory may be made to: the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204,
