John Christopher “Buddy” Vogel

Schenectady- John Christopher “Buddy” Vogel, age 68, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Schenectady on Thursday, April 23, 2026. He was born on December 19, 1957 in Seward, New York to Karl and Margot (Knipp) Vogel and grew up on the family farm with his four brothers and attended the Cobleskill Central School. He enjoyed drawing, writing short stories and watching Criminal Minds, Law & Order and old-time science fiction movies.

John had been part of the Living Resources family for more than 45 years and a longtime resident at Lone Pine since 1981. He enjoyed many different types of work through the years - especially landscaping. He worked at Capital District DDSO for 28 years. He also enjoyed spending holidays at his brother Pete’s house and going to the Cobleskill Sunshine Fair.

He is survived by his four brothers: Karl (Mitch) Vogel of Naples Florida; Peter Vogel of Cobleskill; Richard (Elisabeth) Vogel of Cobleskill and Ernest Vogel of Palo Alto, California and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by both his parents and his baby brother Kurt.

Our beloved John will be deeply missed by his amazing staff members at Living Resources and Capital District DDSO. John’s family would like to thank the staff at Lone Pine Residential Home for their care while John was a resident there.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday May 7, 2026 from 9-11am followed by 11:00am funeral service held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 343 New Karner Road Colonie, NY 12205

If you would like to honor John’s memory, a celebration of life will be held at Lone Pine Residence on Tuesday, May 19th from noon to 4 p.m. at 3026 Lone Pine Road, Schenectady, NY 12303.

A private burial will take place at a later date at the Zion Rural Cemetery in Seward, NY
