John D. Rutherford passed away peacefully at his home on Glass Lake on March 6, 2026. Born in Troy, New York, he was the son of the late Howard and Theresa Rutherford.
John was a graduate with a business degree from the University of Idaho. John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he spent time living in Spokane, Washington, where he owned and operated a construction company.
John had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed skiing and spending time on the lake he loved so much. He was also passionate about cooking and became well known among family and friends for his guacamole, a tradition he proudly prepared every Fourth of July.
He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, “Jeepy,” who brought him great companionship and joy.
John is survived by his brothers, James Rutherford and Jason Rutherford, and his stepmother, Carol. He is also survived by his cousins, including Matt, Bill, and Pat, who cared for him in the time leading up to his passing. Their care, compassion, and dedication to John will never be forgotten.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16th at the Stephentown Valley Rod & Gun Club.
