Deacon John E. Martinez, of Albany, peacefully entered into Eternal rest on August 9, 2025 at St Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the blessed age of 96.
John, was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania the son of the late Joseph Albert Martinez and the late Catherine Darby. John was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, Thelma L. Martinez, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage. From this union they were blessed with six children.
John worked at Allegheny Ludlum steel in Watervliet New York until he retired in 1994 he enjoyed traveling and walking around the City of Albany , playing with his furry babies Ruby and Tupper. He also enjoyed playing a family game of Pokeno watching old movies on TMC, Westerns and theSports channel. He faithfully attended Union Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained a deacon, until health issues prevented him from attending.
John was also predeceased by his brothers, George, Jimmy, Rickey, Donald, and Paul Martinez.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Diana Martinez Holland (the late Raymond ) Debra A. Burns (Charles) Darlan "Dolly" Kipper (Sally), and Denise Martinez; sons Dana Martinez (Jenny), Darryl Martinez (Deidre); and his sister- in-law, Elizabeth Martinez. In addition, John, leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, New York 12205. A funeral ceremony to follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to St. Peter's Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home, 301 Hackett Boulevard Albany, New York 12208 and the Community Hospice 445 New Karner Road Albany, New York 12205 .
