JoAnn Slocum

JoAnn Slocum passed away on January 4th, 2026 after a brief illness. Born in Schenectady NY, she was predeceased by her loving parents, Albert and Mary DePalma Popolizio.

She leaves behind her husband David Slocum of Niskayuna, her son Christopher Slocum and her adoring grandchildren Cameron, Jack and Gabriella “GG” Slocum of Connecticut, as well as many cousins. She is also survived by her sister Rosemary Popolizio Stewart and her husband Clifford Stewart of Schenectady, her niece Michele Stewart Mannino and her husband Rosario Mannino of Schenectady.

JoAnn and Dave met while both working at Alpert’s Furniture Store. Dave was the sales manager and JoAnn was the credit manager. Who knew this would be the start of their beautiful 50 years of marriage. JoAnn was an avid reader. She loved her books. After many years of working at Craig Elementary School in the Niskayuna School District, she enjoyed her retirement. Whether it was spending time on the boat at the Schenectady Yacht Club, taking a trip in the RV, especially to Mystic with her grandkids or to the Finger Lakes; she truly enjoyed these moments. She always thought about others and never missed recognizing someone's birthday, anniversary, or a holiday. In recent years JoAnn faced life challenges with bravery and strength. She was a fighter and an inspiration to all who loved her. She will truly be missed by her family and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 3:30pm-5pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY 12205. A memorial service will begin at 5pm.

At the request of the family, a private burial will be scheduled at a later date at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
