Joan E. Van Wormer

Altamont- Joan E. Van Wormer, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2025 at home with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Ceceilia Matthews. Joan was the devoted wife to the late Robert Van Wormer. They were married many years.

Joan worked for New York State until her retirement.

Joan enjoyed spending time with her entire family and loved cooking for them.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Hedy Migden for the kind and compassionate care she provided to Joan and her family.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Nancy M. (Charlotte) Van Wormer; grandchildren, Kathy (Paul) Parent, Robert (Debbie) Fisher, Michael (Melinda) Fisher; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Gayle Fisher; siblings, Ceceilia Kalamejski, Irene Van Wormer, Ruth Bader, Samuel Matthews, and Robert Matthews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan's name to The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204.
