Colonie- Joan Marie Veitch Clark, 87 passed away peacefully on September 4 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Lewy-Bodies Dementia.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 30, 1928, she was the only daughter of Leo and Ruth (Johnson) Veitch who later in life resided in Fort Johnson NY and owned and operated RuLee Farm.
Joan graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1945 and attended Syracuse University before giving up her collegiate education to marry and support her loving husband Harold V. Clark on June 18th, 1949 and who predeceased her on November 9th 2011 after 62 years of marriage.
Throughout life, Joan was a long time member of Niskayuna Reform Church where she was active in the Choir for more than 30 years and donated her time serving the less fortunate and sick in the Capital District area. Joan also spent time serving as a docent for local museums and the Albany County Airport.
Joan was a long time member of Shaker Ridge Country Club and the Northeastern Women's Golf Association where Joan excelled in the sport with numerous tournament wins and recorded three (3) holes-in-one.
Joan and Harold traveled the world and enjoyed playing golf in Bermuda, Maui, Pacific Northwest, Scotland, and England as well as numerous courses in the States.
Joan was well read, participated in book clubs and was an accomplished Bridge player which she enjoyed playing with her husband and circle of many friends. She loved spending time with her family and especially loved holiday get-togethers where she always had a new game to play with her children and grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her three children, Cynthia Minkiewicz (Paul) of Niskayuna, Bradley Clark of Burnt Hills and James (Diane) Clark of Colonie; grandchildren; Abigail, Megan, Matthew, Carly, Catherine, James and Brian, and two great grandchildren, Jennifer and Olive.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at New Comer Funeral Home, Colonie. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10am-11am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Pinegrove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
