Joan M. Smith

COLONIE- Joan M. Smith, age 85, peacefully passed away at Rosewood Rehabilitation & Nursing in East Greenbush, NY.

She was born in Ballston Spa, NY on August 25, 1940, the daughter of the late US Army Sgt. 1st Class Douglas W. Blankschen and Teresa Guido Blankschen and by her step mother Loretta (Blankschen) French who she was raised by. She was also predeceased by her husband Clifton, her son Douglas, daughter Jennifer, sister Mary French, brother in law Gary French and nephew Mark French.

Joan was a homemaker and worked part time at Montgomery Ward. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her daughter Jennifer.

She is survived by her son Gregory (Tracey); her sister Shirley B. DeStafeno (Peter J. Pociluyko) of Saratoga Springs, NY; brother in law William Smith; nephews: Chad Smith (Jo Ellen), Clark Smith (Casey) and Scott R. French (Joey).

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Tuesday April 21, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. All are invited to attend her funeral service following at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Touching Hearts At Home, especially Melanie, who spent quality time with Joan in her last few years.
