Joan O’Grady Rimawi, 93, wife of Dr. Karim Rimawi for 55 years, passed away on October 26th, 2025 at her home in Glenmont, NY. She was surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born on July 1st, 1932 in Plattsburgh, NY to Mary A. Labombard (née Leonard) and Thomas L. LaBombard.
Joan received her Bachelor’s Degree, with a major in Social Studies and minor in English, from the State University of New York (SUNY). She then received her Masters Degree in Education, also from SUNY. Plus, she completed 54 graduate hours, and obtained Certification in Guidance Counseling.
Joan started her career out as a teacher at both Waterford and Shenendehowa School Districts. She also, became Director of the Neighborhood Youth Corps of Cohoes, New York. Then, an Employment Counselor for the NYS Dept of Labor. After moving, she was an investigator for the NYS Dept of Social Services, at the Twin Towers in New York City before eventually returning to Counseling. Teaching was her job, but counseling was her vocation. She counseled anyone in need, whether it be a stranger or a friend.
Joan had a deep love for the Catholic Faith. She attended mass daily. In her spare time, she was an avid movie goer and book enthusiast. But, Joanie’s (as she’s known to her loved ones) biggest joy in life was her family.
Joan is survived by her daughter Marianne O’Grady of Glenmont, and two granddaughters Tara Maloney and Lani Larson (née Maloney) (Bradd) of Glenmont. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Joan Helen was predeceased by her parents, Mary Alice and Thomas Leo LaBombard. Also, her six siblings: Thomas Leonard LaBombard (Peggy), Marie Therese Kopcza (Micheal), Patricia Anne Watson (Frank), John (Jean) LaBombard (ex-wife Nancy), Pierre Michael (Mickey) LaBombard (Dorothy). Additionally, Joan was predeceased by her former husband John C. O’Grady.
The funeral will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar, NY on Monday, 11/3/25 at 10:00 AM. The burial will be immediately following the services in Glenmont at Calvary Cemetery.
