Joan Anne Yanni Dunn

LOUDONVILLE – Joan Anne Yanni Dunn, 88, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026 at Shaker Place in Latham, NY.

Born in North Albany, New York on April 2, 1938, Joan was the daughter of Joseph Bruno Yanni and Althea (Dyer) Yanni. She was the middle of six children and graduated from Cathedral Academy in 1956. Following her graduation, Joan worked as a legal Secretary at the law office of Pennock & Robert’s in Albany, NY. In 1969 Joan moved to Boston, MA, working for prominent law firms in both Boston and eventually New York City, where she moved in 1976. Her career was a source of great pride for her and allowed her to carve her own path as a woman well ahead of her time.

She met her husband of fifty years, Thomas J. Dunn (Butch), of Astoria, Queens, NY whom she loved with all of her being, while skiing in Mount Snow, Vt. in the winter of 1970. They married on January 16, 1976, at St. Francis de Sales church in Albany, NY. Joan moved from Boston, MA to Queens, NY where she gave birth to their daughter, Molly. In 1988 she and her family moved to Loudonville, NY. She loved nothing more than skiing with Tom in Vermont, summers at the lake, tending to her garden, trips to the ocean, kayaking the Adirondacks, and a good dirty martini.

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her sisters, Rosemarie Yanni Helou, Theresa Yanni, and half-brother Barry Dyer.

Joan is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Dunn and daughter, Molly B. Dunn, her sister Beverly (Yanni) Kean, brothers Joseph Yanni, Jim Yanni, and cousin, Bill Gardy (Charlie Philion). She was the loving Aunt of numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026 from 4PM to 7PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 10:30AM at St. Pius X Church in Loudonville, NY. Burial services will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joan's honor may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association- New York Chapter.
