Jerry Norwood, 81, passed away peacefully at home with his devoted wife by his side on January 15, 2026. Jerry was thoughtful, funny, and generous. He loved his family, his friends, his church, and was a blessing to every life he touched. His smile and laugh will be greatly missed by many.

Born June 4, 1944, in Mendenhall, Mississippi, he was the son of the late TJ and Maggie Norwood. As a child he moved to Albany, NY where he made lifelong friends and a life for himself. It was there that Jerry met the love of his life, Virginia Norwood in 1962 and together they made a beautiful family.

Jerry proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968 where he earned a National Defense Service Medal and was deployed to Ethiopia. He graduated from Russell Sage College where he received his B.S. in Accounting in 1977. He was an accountant for University Auxiliary Services at the University at Albany for nearly 30 years and was a trustee at Mount Olive Southern Missionary Baptist Church for 54 years.

Along with Virginia, he is survived by his four daughters; Dynese Norwood, Jerrinna Young, Ronda Davis (Bryon Davis), and LaTonya Sankey (Hakim Sankey), seven grandchildren and two great grandsons; Myeasha Young-Eaddy, Ciearra Norwood, Cheyenne Alvarez, Kia’Erra Bullock, Malachi Young, Jha’Kai McGraw, Eniya Norwood, Kaiden Green, and Kah’ni Shaw. Jerry is also survived by his sister, Sherlene Wallace (Allen Wallace), his nephew and nieces, Kevin Wallace, Shari Norwood, and Kim Norwood, and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Adams. Jerry also leaves behind great nieces and nephews, cousins, and loving friends and neighbors with whom he made countless memories with.

In addition to his parents TJ and Maggie, he was predeceased by his brothers, Howard Norwood and LD Norwood (Jackie Norwood), and his nephews and niece, Kenny Norwood, Peter Norwood, and Gwendolyn Norwood.

There will be a viewing for Jerry on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Mount Olive Southern Missionary Baptist Church, 236 N Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12207 from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. The burial will be at 1:30 pm at Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd, Albany, NY 12205.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the New York Chapter of the Parkinson’s Foundation.
