Jeffrey Allen “Jay,” 59, passed away on January 5, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia. He was loved dearly by all who knew him.
Jeffrey began his life in Oak City, North Carolina, and moved to Albany, New York, at the tender age of three. He was raised by his mother, Eula V. Swanson, and his stepfather, Robert G. Coffin III. He attended Albany High School and later completed his education at Glenmont Job Corps, where he earned his high school diploma along with a certification in Culinary Arts.
Jay was a hard worker who held many jobs throughout his life. Most recently, he worked as a battery service technician for AAA. He was also an entrepreneur, operating his own landscaping business, Old School Landscaping. He often cared for the lawns of elderly residents at affordable prices. His motto was, “A deal is made on a handshake,” reflecting his belief that a person’s word meant everything.
In addition, Jay was a content creator with a YouTube channel called It’s Life Dude, where he shared his many interests and frequently encouraged the importance of family and love. Family meant everything to Jay.
Jay’s joy and spirit were especially evident through his deep love of music. He played the keyboard, drums, and guitar, and he also made beats, rapped, and wrote songs. Music was not just a passion—it was a part of who he was.
Jay is survived by his loving mother, Eula Swanson; his significant other Elizabeth Sullivan his three children, Lakiesha Allen (Josh), Jeffrey Allen Jr, and Rochelle Allen; and his siblings: Brenda Hill (NY), Robert G. Coffin IV (Amy, NY), Kimberly King (Jami, NY), Charles Coffin (Shanita FL), Gregory Coffin (NY), Cora Grey (Dion, NC, ), Erick Whitaker (VA), Johnny Bryant Jr. (Crystal, VA), and Cindy Bryant (VA). He was the proud grandfather of fourteen grandchildren, who lovingly called him Pee pa. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Bryant Sr.; his stepfathers, Robert G. Coffin III and Charles Swanson; and his sisters, Mary McCullar and Brenda Bryant.
Jay was an authentic and solid man. His love and music reached people far beyond his immediate circle, even internationally. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and life lessons. Though his absence is devastating, his love will remain forever.
