James L. Poirier Sr, 87, of Queensbury, NY passed away on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Schenectady, NY on June 3rd, 1938, he was the son of Bertha (Thibodeau) and Robert L. Poirier Sr.  

A lifelong Schenectady resident, James attended Mont Pleasant high school (Class of 1957) where he was a four-sport athlete and a stellar quarterback on the football team. James enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1958 and graduated from machine repair school in San Diego. He served the rest of his naval career aboard the USS Bordelon destroyer. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy he returned home to Schenectady and began his 30-year career at General Electric.

James married the love of his life, Lorraine Marie Androkavitz, on November 6th, 1965 and shared 59 years of faithful marriage. James enjoyed football, baseball, golf, hunting and fishing, but as a devoted family man, his greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren: Kaylee Marie McCarthy (Joshua), Andrew David Poirier, and Meghan Elizabeth Poirier, as well as his three great-grandchildren. James is survived by his wife Lorraine, his daughter Karen J. Goodband (Peter Casazza) of Proctor, VT, and son James L. Poirier Jr (Kerry Ricker) of Charlton, NY. 

He was predeceased by his brother Robert L. Poirier Jr. (Josephine) and his sister Irene Budge (Howard).

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the entrance to St. Luke’s Church, 1241 State St, Schenectady, NY 12304 at 9:30 AM to pay respects on Saturday, September 13th, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM. Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on 1456 Dunnsville Road in Rotterdam, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James' name to High Peaks Hospice, 1247 Dix Ave, Hudson Falls, NY 12839. 

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Glens Falls Hospital and High Peaks Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they provided when it was needed most.
