James Oliver Milkins, 76, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026.

Born on November 14, 1949, in Niskayuna, New York, Jim lived a life marked by devotion—to his faith, his family, and his calling as an educator and servant. In 1974, he gave his life to Christ, a decision that would shape the course of his life and inspire decades of service through teaching and ministry.

Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force for three years before dedicating himself to education. Over the span of more than three decades, he taught with passion and purpose at several Christian schools. He spent 16 years at Schenectady Christian School as one of its first teachers. He soon became a music teacher and the Vice Principal. In 1992 the Lord led him to take a position as the Administrator of Oakwood Christian School. His love for teaching and sharing the Gospel led him overseas to Thailand, where he served as a missionary and teacher for five years at the International Community School of Bangkok. Upon returning to the United States, he continued his vocation at Our Savior Christian School until he retired in 2016.

Jim’s deep love for music was evident in every aspect of his life. He especially cherished worship through singing and often used music as a way to express his faith and bring joy to others. Whether leading songs in church or singing with loved ones at home, his voice was a source of comfort and inspiration.

A man of many talents and interests, Jim also enjoyed knitting—a quiet reflection of his patient spirit—and had a passion for travel that took him across the globe. Yet no matter where he went or what he did, his heart remained firmly rooted in his love for God and family.

Jim was married for 55 years to Sandy Milkins, his high school sweetheart and steadfast partner in life. Together they built a loving home filled with faith and laughter. He is lovingly remembered by their four children: Shireen, Michelle, Nathan, and Trevor. His legacy continues through eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Milkins Sr. and Obia Lee Milkins.

Those who knew Jim will remember him as loving, joyful, loyal—a true follower of Jesus whose life reflected grace and purpose. May his memory bring comfort to all who were blessed to know him. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on February 20, 2026, from 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church 209 Union St.

In lieu of flowers and gifts we are encouraging people to honor Jim's memory by donating to the music department at Our Saviors Christian School. All donations can be done through the following Venmo account/scan code:
