Schenectady-James S. Kwak, Sr, 70, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
Born on February 28, 1947 in Schenectady, a son of the late Walter and Marion (Schiher) Kwak. A lifelong resident of the area, Jim graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Class of 1965. Jim retired from General Electric after 35 years working in various departments.
Jim was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1965-1969. He was an avid golfer; most notable was the Father's Day tradition of golfing with his brothers, son, nephews and grandson in memory of his Father, Walter Kwak. Jim could be found cheering on his Pittsburgh Steelers during football season, and during baseball season, his favorite team was any team his grandson, Ricky played for. Jim participated in the Bedrock Bowling league and he also greatly enjoyed his crossword scratch offs.
Jim is survived by his loving family, daughter, Danielle Parks; son, James Kwak, Jr. (Catie); grandson, Ricky Parks IV; siblings, John Kwak, Cassandra Kopchick (Nicholas), Susan Loffredo (Vincent), David Kwak (Robin), Eugene Kwak (Anita), Celeste Kwak, Alice Gilroy, Tracy Oppelt (Russell); mother to his children, Colleen Pohl (David); several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Kwak.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 10am at St. Lukes of Schenectady, 1241 State Street, Schenectady, NY, 12304. A private burial will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
