It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of James R. "Jimbo" Essman, 57, on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. He passed away with his loving family by his side.
Born in 1968 in Syracuse, New York, James was the son of Elizabeth Essman and the late Raymond Essman. He earned a bachelor's degree from the School of Food, Hotel and Travel Management at Rochester Institute of Technology. James dedicated 21 years of his career to the New York State Department of Health. James enjoyed spending time with his golf league at Frear Park and participating in his fantasy football league.
James leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family and friends. His daughter, Madalyn, was his greatest joy and the center of his life. His beloved wife, Suzy, was the love of his life, and the devotion, laughter, and memories they shared were among his greatest treasures. He also shared a special bond with the family's beloved dog, Molly, who was his cherished companion and pal.
He was predeceased by his father, Raymond Essman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne "Suzy" Essman; his beloved daughter, Madalyn Essman, both of Loudonville; his mother, Elizabeth Essman; his brother, John Essman of New Hampshire; and six nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Christ Our Light, 1 Maria Dr, Albany, NY 12211, with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
