James P. “Skip” Canavan, 82, passed away peacefully on May 22nd surrounded by his beloved family after a brief illness. James is predeceased by both his Father (James E. Canavan) and Mother (Helen M. Canavan). He is survived by two siblings, his Sister Patricia L. Canavan-Laurey (Niskayuna N.Y) and Brother, Terrance S. Canavan (Jackie) of Averill Park N.Y. James, a lifelong resident of Troy N.Y. was employed by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a total of 58 years, where he gained numerous accommodations for his work ethic and attendance. An avid bike rider, James was known for taking to the open road, pedaling miles at a time and running errands along the way on his legendary Classic Schwinn Cruiser. One of his most favorite stops being at the Bella Napoli Bakery on River Street for his beloved Grandmother Mildred V. Patrick, whom James cared for and resided with for over 35 years until her passing. James was also a music and animal lover, frequently relaxing while listening to his favorite hits on vinyl such as Roy Orbison and other greats, as his Parakeets listened and sang along. James was an easy-going man and loved nothing more than a good T.V. dinner and a cold bottle of Coca Cola while watching his WWF Wrestling. To say James will be missed is largely an understatement. We love you Skip, and will all see you again someday. Until then rest easy kiddo, and God Bless.
