Howard R. Myers, Jr.

Howard “Howie” R. Myers Jr., 80, of East Greenbush, New York, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Howie was born in Albany, New York, in February 1946, to the late Howard A. and Elizabeth A. Myers. He attended Van Rensselaer High School and graduated in 1963.

Following high school, Howie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969. During his military service, he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, Luke Air Force Base, and Sheppard Air Force Base. Howie served as a crew chief with the 612th Tactical Fighter Squadron and was stationed at Phu Cat Air Force Base in Binn Dinh Province during the Vietnam Conflict. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1969, after attaining the rank of Sergeant.

Following his time in the Air Force, Howie began a long and dedicated working career. He worked for several companies throughout the years, including Sterling Drug, Albany Hydraulic, and later Kaman Industrial Technologies. He took pride in his work and in providing for his family.

Howie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was married to his beloved wife, L. Marie Myers, for 59 years. His family was the heart of his life, and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren.

Howie was deeply devoted to his family, his church, and his community. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was an active member of Connecting Point Church in East Greenbush, NY for over 11 years. He believed strongly in giving back and devoted his time to helping others. Howie volunteered with the Capital City Rescue Mission and devoted his time to the Youth for Christ program, where he enjoyed serving and making a positive difference in the lives of young people. His commitment to serving others was a reflection of his strong faith and caring heart.

Howie is predeceased by his parents, Howard A. and Elizabeth A. Myers, as well as his brother, Richard A. Myers.

Howie is survived by his beloved wife, L. Marie Myers; his sister, Beverly Schermerhorn, of Mecklenburg, North Carolina; his daughter, Juanita (Myers) Milot, of Spearman, Texas; his daughter, Dawn (Myers) Cruz, and her husband, Ramon Cruz, of Kissimmee, Florida; and his son, Jonathan Myers, and his wife, Joanne Myers, of Chatham, New York.

He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren:

Juanita’s children: Timothy Milot (Courtney Kinnard), Ethan Milot, and Joseph Milot.

Dawn’s children: Makayla Ellsbury (Justin Figueroa), Dominique (Kyle) Billings, Darien (Nelson) Bonesteel, Austyn Ellsbury, Carmen Cruz-Myers, Gabriel Cruz-Myers, and Alexander Cruz-Myers.

Jonathan’s children: Hunter Myers (Kylie Winn), Braden Myers, and Cameron Myers.

Howie was especially excited about the arrival of his two upcoming great-grandchildren. He looked forward with great anticipation to welcoming them into the world and adding another generation to the family he loved so dearly.

Howie’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured the time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and loved ones. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his faith, his church, and his community.

His love, kindness, strength, and generous spirit touched many lives. Whether through his family, his church, his volunteer work, or simply being there for someone in need, Howie made a difference in the lives of those around him.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years, his sister, children and their spouses, grandchildren, soon-to-arrive great-grandchildren, extended family, church family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at East Greenbush Fire Department #3 Park Station, located at 68 Phillips Road, Rensselaer, NY 12144. Family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate Howie’s life, share memories, and honor the legacy of love, faith, service, and family that he leaves behind.

Interment will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery in a private ceremony for family only.

These organizations reflect Howie’s lifelong commitment to helping others, serving his community, and supporting those in need.
