Henry M. Calkins

Henry M. Calkins, 87, died peacefully at home on November 6th 2026.

He was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, a son of Frank and Margaret Calkins, he earned his BS in Chemistry from UAlbany and worked for over 30 years for the New York State Food Laboratory, (Department of Agriculture and Markets).

Henry met Nancy in the lab and they married in 1977.

Together, they were foster, parents of eight children.

Henry loved cooking gardening, history, poetry, opera and spending time in Maine, but above all, he was a devoted father and foster parent.

He has survived by his wife, Nancy and son, Joshua Crandall; his sister, Elizabeth Calkins and his nieces and nephews.

Henry was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Frank Calkins.

Funeral arrangements will be private.
