Troy- Helen G. Wakefield (Aunt T'Leaves) began her journey home on September 2, 2017 at Barnwell Nursing Facility. Helen was born in Ashland, Maine on September 7, 1921 to the late Caleb and Lena Wakefield. She was the youngest and last surviving of 11 children. During WWII, she joined the Cadet Nurse Corps and trained in Nashua, NH. After the war she joined Northeast Airlines as a stewardess to aide in taking care of wounded soldiers. It was during this time that she met her husband Bob Bockis, who was in the Navy, enlisted as an artist. He passed away at an early age. She then moved to Arizona and continued her nursing career. In her later years, she moved to Albany to care for her sister's husband who was ill. Having helped him greatly, she moved on to become a private duty nurse in the area.
Helen lived a healthy lifestyle, she was a vegetarian, studied yoga and transcendental meditation. She was an avid reader and held a great interest in astrology. All of her life, Helen was a helper, she considered herself to be a good Samaritan.
She is survived by her nephews: Floyd (Marie) Wakefield of Charlotte, NC, Fred (Ronnie) Bockis and Joseph (Kathy) Bockis both of Colonie, NY; her great niece Leslie Bockis and her son Cameron, who have taken care of her for several years. She is also survived by many others nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her siblings: Leslie, Claude, Margret, Percy, Willard, William, Evelyn, Stanley, Aldora and Donald.
