Helen J. Capasso

Scotia, NY - Helen J. Capasso, age 74, passed away on September 11, 2026, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. She was the daughter of the late Walter Nye and Majorie Sundal. Pre-deceased siblings Joseph Nye, Ernest Higgs and Louise Maggard. 

Born in Niagara Falls, NY. she moved to Scotia, beginning a career in nursing as a Candy Striper and becoming a CNA at Ellis. From the beginning, Helen had a passion for nursing, willing and eager to help those in need. 

Survived by loving son Sean Capasso (Kathryn) and grandchildren Mackenzie and Brooks,

whom she was extremely proud of. Her siblings Patricia Morlock, Pamela Welch, Dexter Sundal and spouses. Also survived by many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and great, great nephews and nieces. 

She looked forward to quiet days in the park listening to books on tape while talking to people and watching nature around her, especially enjoying a visit with little children and puppies. Helen liked trips to the beach, collecting cute earrings and placing bobble heads in her car. 

While growing up, Helen would take her siblings to haunted houses every year. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her Christmas apple pie. She loved flowers, but due to allergies was unable to have them in her house. Her favorite was Snapdragons. 

Visitation will be 9-11 am. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY. Interment to follow visitation at Memory Gardens 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd. Albany, NY.12205
