ALBANY

Listen to Obituary

ALBANY- It is with broken heart that I share the news of the passing of my mother, Gloria (Sookey) Majkut on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at the age of 91.

Gloria was born in the City of Albany to Margaret D. Korzatkowski (Bliven) and Jacob Geller on December 10, 1934.

After graduating from Albany High on June 24, 1953, Gloria began her career working for the New York Telephone Company (now known as Verizon) working at various locations in the area. Once I was born, she became a stay-at-home mom until I was school age. Then she worked part-time as a lunch monitor for the Guilderland School District. First working at Guilderland Elementary School and then at Guilderland High School. She returned to working for the phone company once I was in the middle school.

During her free time, Gloria enjoyed traveling to the beach (lake and ocean) and to New York City during the holidays to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, a tradition I still do. She also enjoyed reading, word searches, watching Wheel of Fortune, movies on the Turner Classic Network and going to see free concerts during the summer. She had a great love for music and dancing. Her favorite local bands to see were the Burners UK and The Audiostars.

Gloria is survived by her loving daughter, Sharon; her siblings: Frank (Pete) Korzatkowski (Alice), Pat Berbrick (Kevin Hand), Bob Korzatkowski, several nieces and nephews along with many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Jacob, her soulmate and beloved husband Anthony (Tony) Majkut, brother John (Jack) Korzatkowski and longtime companion Frank Majkut

Per mom’s request, her services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.

I would like to thank Dr. Abigail Belasen and her team along with the nurses in building M 4th floor and building D 5th floor for the excellent care my mom received during her stay at Albany Medical Center. You made a very difficult time much easier to bear and I’ll be forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or the American Heart Association in Gloria’s name.
