George R. Weber

Delmar-George Robert Weber, age 91, passed away on 16 February 2018 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, Albany, New York. He was born on 4 Feb 1927 in Buffalo, New York to Norman E. and Emma M. (Uhl) Weber.

George grew up in Buffalo, New York. He graduated from Fosdick-Masten Park High School in Buffalo, New York in June of 1944. After graduating high school, he served with the 20th Air Force in the Military Police, deployed to the Pacific Theater of World War II. George began his career in Insurance in 1947 and became a licensed insurance agent for New York State in 1951. He obtained his bachelor's degree in business from The University of Buffalo in 1957. In October of 1959, he joined the American Mutual Liability Insurance Company where he worked his way up from salesman to executive positions. He continued his professional career with Allstate Corporation, then joined Austin & Co. after moving to Albany, New York in 1977. He served as an officer of the Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) throughout his career.

George married Pirie Semple in 1949 in Buffalo, New York. They were happily married for 48 years. George was involved in many family activities and hobbies, as well as volunteer organizations. He was elected President of his Holy Name Society in 1960 and remained actively engaged with the Roman Catholic Church throughout his life. He was a Boy Scout Troop leader and enjoyed hiking, camping, tennis, skiing, sailing, music and piloting small aircraft among many other activities. George was also an active long time member of the Second Milers Club. George's second marriage (Jayne Hughes) in 1999 led to extensive travel throughout the world. Jayne, as well as others, particularly daughter Colleen, provided loving care and comfort during George's protracted illness.

George is survived by his spouse, Jayne (Hughes) Weber; children Robert J. (Caroline) Weber of Phoenix, Arizona; J. Mark Weber (Roy Wesley) of Chicago Illinois, and Colleen Weber of Albany, New York; two grandchildren Joseph S. (Lisa) Weber, and Jennifer A. (William) Wahbeh; four great grandchildren; a nephew, Carl (Joannie) Emens of Elma, New York; three step-children, and seven step-grandchildren and one step great granddaughter.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Norman E., and Emma M. (Uhl) Weber, of Buffalo, New York; his first wife, I. Pirie (Semple) Weber of North Tonawanda, New York; and his sister Vera D (Nelson) Emens of Cheektowaga, New York.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Mater Christi Church, 40 Hopewell St., Albany, NY at 10:00 am on 16 March 2018. Burial and Military Honor Guard ceremony will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to: Alzheimer's Association.
