George A. Skerritt, 77, of Albany, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 after a short illness with his loving family by his side.
George was enlisted in the Marine Corps. and served from 1959 to 1963 and was honorably discharged, and then served for many years in the National Guard. He was also a member of the Post American Legion #1520.
For many years he served as a mail carrier with the US Postal Service where he retired from in 1995.
George had a quick wit and loved to entertain anyone who would listen to one of his many corny jokes.
George was the devoted husband to the late Rose M. Skerritt. They were married 45 years.
George is survived by his sister, Clare (Tom) Breslin, several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Besides his parents, and wife, George was predeceased by his brother John Francis Skerritt.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, on Friday May 12, from 4 - 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Entombment will take place privately at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
The family would like to thank Albany Medical Center ICU Staff for their compassion and exceptional care shown toward George.
