George A. Schoonbeck, 74, husband of Mary Ann Schoonbeck of Troy, passed away at his residence unexpectedly on December 19, 2025.
He was born on September 8, 1951, in Albany NY. He was the son of John Schoonbeck and Martha (Hale) Schoonbeck.
George resided in Latham until he joined the US Army in March 1971 where he was an Armored/Unit Supply Specialist. He received the National Service Medal & Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. George retired from the Watervliet Arsenal, where he met the love his life and future wife, after 30 years.
George enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting sports cards. He also loved to work on making the small yard he and Mary Ann had, look beautiful and be their little sanctuary. He was also a huge Dallas Cowboys fan which meant you knew where to find him on Thanksgiving afternoon. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Roy) Schoonbeck, step children Daniele Liotta, Joe Liotta & Nicole(Liotta) Stone, 8 grandchildren & 7 great grand children. He is also survived by his siblings John Schoonbeck, Donald (Colleen) Schoonbeck, Steven (Michele) Schoonbeck & Judith Schoonbeck and many nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by his parents John & Martha Schoonbeck, a brother Frank Schoonbeck and a nephew Justin Schoonbeck.
Friends may call, Friday Jan 9, 2026 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with a celebration of life to immediately follow at 11:00 am at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd. Watervliet. Internment will follow at 1 PM at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund or St. Judes for children.
