Albany- George A. Eckhardt passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side, on March 16, 2016 at The Teresian House in Albany. He was 89 years old. The son of the late George E. and Florence (Hill) Eckhardt, George was born on June 14, 1926 in Albany, NY. George was the beloved husband of 66 years of Janice (Jackson) Eckhardt. He graduated from Albany High School and Albany Business College. George served his country honorably during WWII from 1944 to 1946 in the US Navy. George worked for many years for the IRS until his retirement in 1987. He was an avid bowler and golfer and he enjoyed shooting pool at the Beltrone Center in Colonie.
George is survived by his son David (Sharon) Eckhardt of Haymarket, VA; his daughter Nancy Eckhardt of Albany; two grandchildren: Eric (Kim) Eckhardt of Framingham, MA and Jennifer Eckhardt-Culver of Catskill, NY; two great-grandchildren: Adriana Lynn Eckhardt and Kaitlyn Victoria Eckhardt.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Dorthea (Gil) Hopper.
George's family would like to express their gratitude to the Doctors and Staff of the Teresian House for their compassion and care over the past few months.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Monday, March 21 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Albany.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in George's name to The Colonie Senior Citizen's Club, 6 Winners Circle, Colonie, NY 12205.
